What is shade in textile?
Shade is depth of color or hue. It is a common word in dyeing, printing and finishing unit of a textile mill. Fabric shade variation is a major issue in textile mill. Fabric shade variance is the variation of shade in one roll of fabric or separate pieces of fabric that were intended to match. There are many reasons are responsible for the difference in shade in textile dyeing mill. For matching fabric shade, fabric shade checking is very important in dyeing floor. Fabric shade checking is the physical testing method of offline quality control assurance system.
Shade matching system:
Shade matching depends on the accuracy of the man’s eye. It is a visual process for this reason some shade may have different comments from different person. So, dyeing expert is needed for this purpose. Besides the computer color matching system can help man to take a decision about matching the shade.
Time of fabric shade checking:
The shade is need checked in several times, to ensure the customers demand and condition. Generally, the shade is checked at the following stages.
- After dyeing.
- After drying.
- After trial for finishing.
- After finishing.
Fabric shade checking instruments:
Shade of the color varies depending on the light source under which sample is checked out. For this reason, buyer/ customers give specific light source under which sample will be checked. For this the following equipment is used.

- D-65 (artificial day light)
- TL-84
- F (filament light)
- UV (ultraviolet blue light )
Conclusion:
For shade matching, it’s important to understand about the color tone. It’s also important to know about the color combination by which color will be produced. So, a dyeing expert or a textile engineer should be careful about the shade matching of a textile products.
