Lap Former:
In the spinning section of the textile industry, a lap former is a must-have machine for creating lap. It’s utilized once the blowroom operation is finished. Lap Former Machines are used in spinning for lapping cotton and generating compact laps from pulled sliver to feed the comber machine.

A 30 inch wide lap is coiled onto a bobbin with cotton wool. Because it is used for lapping yarn by lapping, the lap former machine is not employed in the carded yarn process.

Objective of Lap Former:

  1. To reduce the strain to dedicate comber needles.
  2. To reduce fibre damage.
  3. To reduce chances of good fibres going into waste.
  4. To reduce short fibre escaping from the sliver.
  5. To reduce thick and thin places of the sliver.

Types of Lap Former:

A. Conventional System

  • Sliver lap Former
  • Ribbon lap Former

B. Modern System

  • Super lap Former

Sliver Lap Former:
The object of this machine is to produce a narrow lap from several carded slivers. The machine is made to make lap from 18 to 24 slivers depending upon the width and weight per unit length of the lap required.

Material Passage of the Machine:

  1. Each sliver passes through a hole in the guide plate placed at the back of the machine.
  2. Then they are passed over a special spoon and guided over a table which brings them together in the order in which they lie in the lap.
  3. The slivers are then passed through 3 or 4 pairs of drafting rollers.
  4. Due to the draft in the drafting zone the fiber become straight and individual.
  5. The lap sheet passes over two pairs of calendar roller which compress it into a sheet and wound on a spool with the help of two flutted lap rollers.
  6. Considerable pressure is applied to the spool in which the lap is wound so that a long length of compressed lap can be obtained.

Ribbon Lap Machine:
The object of this machine is to doubling lap which is produce in sliver lap machine. The machine is made to make lap from 6 to 8 sliver lap depending upon the width and weight per unit length of the lap required.

Material Passage of the Machine:

  1. The lap from the sliver lap machine creeled here and unwind the lap Two flutted rollers are provided to unwind the lap.
  2. Then the laps are guided over a table which brings them together in the order in which they lie in the lap.
  3. The lapss are then passed through 3 or 4 pairs of drafting rollers.
  4. The lap sheet passes over two pairs of calender roller which compress it into a sheet.
  5. Then the lap is rolled in a spool Two flutted rollers are responsible to obtain a compact lap.

Super Lap Former:
With the development of high production comber, it was necessary to increase the weight per unit length of the lap. The traditional silver lap and ribbon lap machine was not able to give the high weight which was required. So super lap former is introduced. The object of this machine is to produce a lap from several drawn slivers. The machine is made to make lap from 24 to 28 drawn slivers depending upon the width and weight per unit length of the lap required.

Material Passage of the Machine:

  1. There are 3 zones and 3 separate feed plates.
  2. Each sliver passes through a hole in the guide plate placed at the back of the machine.
  3. Then they are passed over a special spoon and guided over a table which brings them together in the order in which they lie in the lap.
  4. The slivers are then passed through 3 or 4 pairs of drafting rollers.
  5. The lap sheet passes over two pairs of calendar roller which compress it into a sheet and wound on a spool.
