Compliance of Garments Industry in Bangladesh: Why Our Buyers are Worried about Compliance?

Abstract:
We have been seen that, our garment buyers are so much worried about our compliance.
Did you think, why?
They bought garments from us by money. We exchange garments for money. Isn’t it? So, for their money they can demand to us quality products. Isn’t it?
So, actually what are their problems???
Ok.. Don’t worry…
I will clear you through my writing.
Our buyers are worried, because they are also engaged with our compliance. To know details please read my writing thoroughly.
Introduction:
At first, we need to know, what is compliance?
Compliance mainly focus on 4 (four) basic areas. They are, i) Human right, ii) Labor working environment, iii) Environmental laws, and iv) Anti-corruption.
In general, compliance means conforming to a rule, such as a specification, policy, standard or law. Regulatory compliance describes the goal that corporations or public agencies aspire to achieve in their efforts to ensure that personnel are aware of and take steps to comply with relevant laws and regulations.
In broadly, compliance of garments industry includes working hour policy, holiday compensation, and wage for leaves, equal remuneration policy, anti-discrimination policy, no child labor, health, and safety policy, etc. Compliance adherence in factories is crucial to ensure a favorable working environment.
From the definition we may say that compliance is very vital for our garments industry. It ensures working environment of workers and ethical quality of produced garments.
Basic Discussion:
In our country compliance is violated in garments industry. We saw that much fatal accident occurred of our country in RMG sector. Many garment workers died due to violation of compliance. I would like to mention some incident.
In this worst industrial fire in the history of Bangladesh killed at least 111 people on 24 November 2012 took place in Tazreen Fashion. This incident crossed the limit of humanity. Another most sorrowful incident is collapse of Rana Plaza, that ever not seen by Bengal in their history.
In this building collapse death toll approaches 1,300 and many guys get injured.
After this collapse foreign buyers became very anxious about the compliance of garments industry. Already Disney mart declared, they don’t source garments from Bangladesh.
Others dominated buyers also create pressure upon Bangladesh to maintain compliance in garments industry. For that reason USA abolish GSP facility for Bangladesh.
Now, I will focus on what are our buyer problems or pain, if we don’t maintain compliance in garments industry.
I would like to clear it by a simple example…
I hope, you all are introduced with burglar (সিঁধেল চোর). They theft some materials from victim home. Then he sells these materials to a person at cheap rate.
When this burglar is caught and meeting (শালিস) is called then the burglar confesses his guilt. Then he is punished along with his buyer. Cause his buyer also guilty for supporting the burglar.
I think you are all clear about out garment buyer’s headache.
As a nation they are very gentle. They don’t like this violation of compliance in our RMG sector.
So, if we want to dominate this world by RMG sector i.e., Made in Bangladesh. We should be compliant.
Otherwise we will lose our market and it causes an adverse effect on our economy.
Conclusion:
From the above discussion, we may finalize here that to be compliant is very necessary for our existing RMG sector. Otherwise our economy will be ruined. We also know that we have already many competitors in RMG sector like India, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and Vietnam etc.
They can take advantage of this ambient condition. So, we should be cautious about compliance.
