What is a Midi Dress?
Before going to drafting you should know about midi dress. It is also called midi skirt. A midi dress is any dress that falls below the knee and above the ankle, the “mid-calf” hence where it gets it’s name. This is a teen age girls attaire. A set of dress consisting one top and one skirt. A midi dress is any dress that falls below the knee and above the ankle, the “mid-calf” hence where it gets it’s name. In this article I will show drafting procedure of a midi dress.
Suitable fabrics:
Cotton, linen, satin, polyester, silk, crepe.
Fabric required:
3.5 meter. Cloth width-36”.
Measurements:
Full length = 94cm, Body length = 36 cm, Shoulder width = 33cm, Sleeve length = 18cm, Bust = 82cm, Waist = 61cm Seat = 84cm.
Drafting Details of Midi Dress:
Body (back):
1-0 = body length + 2cm,
2-0 = 1/4th bust less 1cm
3-2 = 1/4 bust + 4cm for loose
4-1 = 1/4 waist + 6cm including dart. Join 3 to 4
5-0 = 1/2 shoulder width + 1.5cm,
6 is squared down from 5.
7-5 = down, join 7 to 3 as shown (back armhole)
8-0 = 1/12th bust. Join 8 to 7.
9-0 = 2 down, shape back neck from 9 to 8 as shown.
A is center of 1 to 4.
Dart width = 2cm,
Dart length = 9cm.
Front:
1-0 = body length+1.5cm.
2-0 = ¼ bustless1cm.
3-2 = ¼ bust+4cm.for loose.
4-1 = ¼ waist+6cm.
5-0 = ½ shoulder+1.5cm.
6 is squared from 5.
B-6 = 2.5cm up.
7-5 = down. Shape front armhole from7, B, 3.
8-0 = 1/12 bust. join 8to7.
9-0 = 1/12 bust+1cm.
10-12cm down.
A is the centre of 4 and 10.
Dart width=2cm.
Length=9cm.
Skirt
Skirt length = full length – body length.
1-0 = skirt length +1.5cm.
2-0 = 1/4 seat less4cm.
3-2 = 1/4 seat+4cm.
4-1= 1/4 seat+10cm.
5-1 and 4-6 is bottom turn up. Join 6 to 1 and 4 to 5 as shown.
7-0 = 1/4 waist+4cm.
8-7 = 1cm as per diagram.
Sleeves
1-0 = sleeve length.
2-0 = 1/8thbust+1.5cm.
2-0 = 1/8thbust+1cm.
3-2 = 1/4thbust+5cm.
4-1 = 24.5cm.
5-4 = 2.5cm.up.
6 = is centre point.
7-6 = 2cm.
8 = centre of 6to3.
9-8 = draw the front shape from3,9,0 as shown.
