Where:
60 = Total minutes in an hour
SMV = Standard Minute Value for a garment
Efficiency = Operator or line efficiency in percentage
Example 1: Basic Calculation
Let’s assume:
Garment Type: T-shirt
SMV: 5 minutes
Efficiency: 85%
Using the formula:
Hourly Production Target = (60 / 5) × 85% = 12 × 0.85 = 10.2
This means the expected hourly output for one operator is 10 pieces.
Example 2: For a Production Line
If a production line has 15 operators, and the same SMV and efficiency are applied:
Line Hourly Production Target = 10.2 × 15 = 153 pieces/hour
This is the Production Target in the Garment Industry for the entire line.
Including Break Time and Downtime
Realistically, operators take short breaks and sometimes face machine downtimes. To get more accurate results:
Net Time Available = 60 minutes – Break Time – Downtime
Let’s assume:
SMV = 8 minutes
Efficiency = 80%
Break Time = 5 minutes/hour
Downtime = 5 minutes/hour
Net Time = 60 – 5 – 5 = 50 minutes
Hourly Production Target = (50 / 8) × 0.80 = 6.25 × 0.80 = 5 pieces/hour
Hence, the Production Target in the Garment Industry after adjustments is 5 garments per hour per operator.
