Introduction:
Pattern master is the one whose work entails turning the imaginative patterns of the fashion designer into reality using conventional instruments and cutting-edge software. He is a designer who converts creative ideas into products in the logic of industrial production. In order to create a final prototype, the pattern maker approaches the development of the design project by combining traditional methods, such paper patterns, with the most cutting-edge technologies, like CAD.
Skills Required To Become A Pattern Maker:
1. Excellent with measurements:
A tiny measurement error can cause major issues; hence pattern makers always utilize measurement tape for various body or product measurements. The pattern maker must take dimensions accurately to prevent these issues.
2. Good knowledge of mathematics:
Basic maths skills, especially addition and subtraction on a measuring tape, should be strong points for pattern makers. The majority of industries use inches as the unit of measurement, so pattern makers must be adept at adding or subtracting 1/16 inch, 1/8 inch, 14 inch, 34 inch, 1/2 inch, etc.
3. Understanding various design methodologies:
The pattern maker must be skilled in producing prototypes and samples that are consistent with the specified aesthetic and wearability qualities, ensuring the industrial reproducibility of the products.
4. Team management:
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills are a must for the pattern master because they serve as the conduit between the product’s designer and the final product.
5. CAD:
On a resume for a pattern maker, cad is used as follows:
- Draping techniques, flat patterns, and CAD (Gerber System) were employed.
- For the CAD Foam Cutter order data, an Excel worksheet was made.
- CAD technical sketches were produced for the tech design team.
- Work NC 3-D CAD software programming and management.
- Using CAD system to digitally mark and grade patterns.
6. Stitching:
Knowing how to sew can help the pattern master foresee any issues that might arise for the operator during sewing and take any required precautions in advance to prevent them. The aforementioned abilities will enable a pattern creator complete his or her work neatly and precisely.
7. Product expertise:
He or she must be knowledgeable about the product they plan to create. An in-depth understanding of the product will aid the pattern master in finding solutions.
8. Knowledge of technical drawing:
Precision and a great deal of experience with technical drawing are two key traits of a pattern maker that help to highlight the aesthetic and wearability qualities and ensure the industrial reproducibility of the products.
9. Specialized technical training:
For many years now, the ability to use CAD software, a crucial instrument for the creation of models, has been a requirement for the completeness of the pattern maker’s figure.
10. Fashion industry expertise:
In order to understand the crucial issues and viability of the designs, the pattern maker must be able to read and analyze the creative inputs contained in the collection proposals from the style office.
Conclusion:
This decalogue reveals the complexity of the pattern creator figure. The desire to work in the fashion industry is not sufficient to become a pattern master; rather, one must enroll in a training programme at a university that provides sufficient knowledge of the industry while also enabling the development of extensive modelling skills, both for conventional modelling and for the full range of CAD applications.
