Introduction:
An alternate method of fabric connecting called fusing is frequently used to attach interlinings. Fusing material is a type of adhesive interlining that is used to provide structure and stability to certain parts of a garment. The foundation fabric for the fusible interlining may resemble the fabric used for sew-in interlinings, but it will have dots of thermoplastic resin on it that will melt at a certain temperature and pressure and flow into the fabric to establish the bond. Although not all garment materials can be fused and sew-in interlining may always be used in some circumstances, fusing is currently the most prevalent procedure in the production of clothing for technical and financial reasons. Currently, it is impossible to envisage apparel manufacturing without the fusing process.

Types of Fusing Material Used in Garment Industry:
There are different types of fusing material used in the garment industry. The type of fusing material used depends on the specific application and desired effect. In this article I will discuss various types of fusing materials.

1. Non-woven fusing material:
For those making bags, purses, and similar items, non-woven fusible interlinings are a fantastic option. Here, a stiff sheet—typically made of paper or cabinets—instead of a woven fabric serves as the interlining. They are excellent for strengthening the bottom of the bags since they assist the base become more firm. Due to the stiffness of the materials being used, bags with non-woven fusible interlining are well resistant to rough handling.

2. Woven fusing material:
The binding occurs between actual woven fabric materials, as the name would imply. Here, a thin fabric that adds a finishing touch to clothing and accessories is interlined. It is quite simple to reinforce with various textiles despite its small weight. It gives the fused unit a flexible texture and performs better under the most difficult circumstances. Ideal for jackets, waistbands, and related goods.

3. Water resistant fusing material:
Fusible interlining that is waterproof or water-resistant prevents incoming water from penetrating the fabric being used. Applying the fusible interlining technology with the aid of waterproof coatings is preferable to make any object or material water-resistant. It gives produced goods good rigidity and stiffness. Perfect for rainwear garment items like raincoats, jackets, etc. The non-woven material needs to be thermally bonded in order to be fused during the process, and as a result, they are well resistant to chemical washing, bleaching, and other abrasive processes.

4. Knitted fusing material:
The best fusible interlinings for productive production lines are knitted. This approach is perfect for giving knotted clothing stretchability. In exchange for the benefit of being flexible, they have higher recovery qualities. This is why companies that produce blazers, coats, jerseys, and other expensive clothing employ it. The laminate works well for the aforementioned clothing because of its low weight and smooth touch. Variations in the looping structures used in knitted varieties offer flexibility and stability with the material being used.

5. PVA coated fusing material:
PVA (polyvinyl acetate) is utilized as a resin coating. Interlining covered with polyvinyl acetate has a restricted washability and cannot be dried cleaned. Here, the leather is used between other materials at low pressure and temperature. On the foundation fabric, the resin often takes the form of an ongoing plasticizing covering. Fusible interlining with PVA coating is seldom ever used in the clothing manufacturing business.

6. Polyethylene coated fusing material:
In this case, polyethylene serves as a resin coating. A higher resistance to dry cleaning solvents, a higher softening point, and increased flexibility are the results of altering the resin’s density. The collar and cuff of the shirt are lined with fusible interlining that is coated in polyethylene. This sort of interlining’s attached fabric can be cleaned in a washing machine.

7. Polyester coated fusing material:
A polyester coating is a resin that is applied to a fusible interlining. In this instance, clothes that can be dry cleaned and washed use polyester resins. because polyamide is more water resistant than polyester. All types of clothing can use fusible interlining with a polyester coating. The term “ideal interlining” refers to this. It is offered in the market, at a high cost.

Importance of Fusing in Garment Industry:

  1. In the clothing industry, fusing is a traditional method for joining two pieces of fabric. It can be used to attach foams, knitted spacers, or nonwoven to leather in the furniture and automobile industries.
  2. It facilitates faster manufacture, which lowers direct labour costs and results in superior looks and feels that were not conceivable with sew-in laminates.
  3. Fusible interlinings are typically used to save manufacturing time, which lowers direct labour costs.
  4. When compared to sewing in interlinings, many fusing operators have lower skill requirements, which results in shorter training periods.
  5. The lamination procedure makes it simpler to obtain consistent quality than many interlining stitching operations. Fusible interlinings open up possibilities for various garment fabrication techniques.

Conclusion:
Nowadays, it is impossible to envisage clothing manufacture without fusing. Therefore, it could be assumed that fusing is now a important technology. More and more unpleasant issues arise as a result of changes in the material, in quality expectations, and in textile care techniques. These issues are frequently discovered after an entire batch of defective items has been created. Utilizing a thermoplastic adhesive resin that can also bond to another fabric, fusing technology joins the interlining to the outer fabric. The attachment of interlinings is the most significant aspect of garment manufacture where a different method has considerably replaced sewing. When interlinings are sewed in, it might be challenging to prevent the interlining from wrinkling inside collars and other sections.
