Procedures for Preparation of Off-Line Bale Management System

Bale Management:
Simply, bale management is the management of bales selection and bales distribution to achieve acceptable quality and cost. Bale management basically deals with the judicious selection of cotton bales in the lay down in order to obtain consistent quality as well as economic spinning performance. The fiber property variations are liable to give shade variations in fabric on dyeing or finishing.

According to USTER technology “The choice of cotton bales according to the fiber characteristics in order to achieve acceptable and economical processing condition and a constant yarn quality is called bale management”.

Thus, in broader sense, objectives of bale management program are;

  1. To get uniform yarn quality and cost economy.
  2. To minimize shade variation of the finished fabric.
  3. To reduce or control fabric barre.

Bale management is based on the categorizing of cotton bales according to their fiber quality characteristics. Bale management covers:

  • Measurement of more important fiber properties per bale or per series of bales
  • Separation of these bales into classes.
  • Arranging of those bales in a lay down which have similar fiber properties and a defined variation of the more important fiber characteristics.

This results in a process-oriented bale mix, and accordingly constant running conditions. It also results in yarn quality with minimum between and within bobbin variation.

Factors for Efficient Bale Management System:

  • Origin (Country of origin)
  • Length and Length uniformity
  • Fibre fineness (MIC value, ugm/inch)
  • Strength and Elongation
  • SIC (Spinning Consistency Index)
  • Maturity
  • Color
  • Trash% etc.

Types of Bale Management System:
There has four types of bale management. They are-

  1. On-line bale management
  2. Off-line bale management
  3. Traditional bale management
  4. Modern bale management

Off-line Bale Management System in Spinning Mill:
In this article I will discuss on off-line bale management system only. An off-line bale management is prepared from the following activities:

1. Identification:

  1. To identify bales according to test parameter, identification is needed.
  2. The same identification number is inserted onto bale and sample packet.

2. Sample collection:
The sample collect from the bales to carry out fiber quality test. Sample weight approximately 25-30gm.

3. Sample condition:
Samples are conditioned for obtaining reproducible test result.

4. Sample testing:

  1. Samples are tested in HVI, MVI, LVI.
  2. Before testing machine is checked by standard. Sample and calibrated if needed.

5. Preparation of fiber database:

  1. Tested parameter of fiber is stored in the HD of HVI.
  2. Preparation of fiber database over long period is performed either in HVI or separate database storage device.

6. Export or Import of data:
The stored data is export or import to suitable from hard disc for working procedure.

7. Analyzation and categorization:

  1. The fiber parameter data is then analyzed and border line of parameter is selected.
  2. Quality data distribution i.e. categorization of bales is carried out for right quality.

8. Preparation of lay down plan:

  1. After categorization of total bales, for each lay down, bales are selected.
  2. After selection of lay down bales, lay down plan is prepared for optimal quality.
